NCSR conducted a Natural Resources Adaptation Institute in August 2006 for middle and secondary school teachers. The institute was developed and conducted by Jon Yoder, NCSR CO-PI. The Institute lead teachers in the process of adapting a community-based instructional process in developing environmental science and field biology lessons. The community-based approach was based on the secondary education guides developed by Yoder and published and disseminated by NCSR (see Community Based Secondary Education Guides on this site). The participants' evaluation questionnaire reflects a very successful professional development experience. The participants plan to use the community-based instructional model in the future and feel they will be beneficial to their students. One participant's comment quote below reflects this opinion.

"I was expecting a typical institute where as this has been exceptional! The camaraderie and lesson improvement will greatly assist my at-risk students who rarely get the opportunity to visit and touch nature. Thank you!"
