Where Does Your Seafood Come From?

 

This activity is designed to familiarize students with seafood products that are being sold in their community and to have them investigate the conservation characteristics (stock status, harvest method, wild-caught or aquaculture product, etc.) of those species.

Approximately 3-4 hours of class or laboratory time will be needed to complete this activity.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Describe the various criteria that are used to determine the sustainability of seafood products

  • Evaluate the sustainability of locally-available seafood
