Environmental Science II

Considers environmental problems associated with biological resources, using ecosystem management as an underlying theme. Evaluates issues concerning resource use and management such as food production, deforestation, fisheries management, soil erosion, water issues, biodiversity loss, and impacts of global climate change. Highlight topics include an overview of ecosystem management, and case studies of Pacific salmon, the northern spotted owl, and the California condor; related American-Indian perspectives are presented. Laboratories include biological and physical analyses of soils, field trips to national wildlife refuges and tribal lands, and a study based on dendrochronology.
