Faculty Development Institutes
The Northwest Center for Sustainable Resources sponsors faculty development institutes which have been attended by educators from around the nation interested in natural resources and environmental science-based programs. These Institutes are funded through the National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education Program. Institutes are offered during the summer and information is provided below on future institutes.
Summer 2009 Faculty Institute: Human Impacts on Marine Fisheries
This institute will examine the science and issues related to marine fisheries. The institute will be restricted to 12 college faculty. NCSR will provide attendees with lodging, meals and a $600 stipend. Participants must provide their own transportation to the institute. The Human Impacts on Marine Fisheries Institute will be held at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, a University of Oregon marine biological laboratory located on the southern Oregon coast. OIMB is the perfect location for the institute providing excellent laboratories and field sites. (For more information concerning OIMB visit http://www.uoregon.edu/~oimb/.) The five-day event will include both field- and classroom-based activities based on instructional modules developed by NCSR. These modules are designed for adaptation and integration into courses such as general biology, environmental science, and natural resources.
